After purchasing a used 2018 Nissan Rogue, I discovered the driver's side heat was not working. Research revealed a common issue - the blend door spline connected to the actuator had stripped. After three weeks of designing and testing, I developed a durable nylon 3D-printed repair part to solve the problem without costly system replacement.

To confirm this issue in your vehicle, download the installation guide to access the actuator. If the spline is stripped, this solution should work for you. This fix has been working reliably in my vehicle since December 2023.

The blend door moves close to 90 degrees back and forth. If you are looking at the blend door spline from the driver’s side, counterclockwise is for cold mix and clockwise is for hot mix. What caused the failure mode is that the spline becomes stripped because the motor continues to turn when the blend door stops moving. The blend door moves even when the car is not started, it moves all the way to the cold position when a door (or rear hatch) is opened. This is so the temperature control always starts at the coldest position and then goes to the temperature setting of the controller. The motor continues to run seconds after the door stops to ensure it is at the cold position. This is what eats up the blend door spline.
What our kit does is engage with the portion of the spline that has not been damaged and allow the motor to slip when the blend door stops. This limits the force put on the spline, so it will not be damaged any further.

Bought the kit for my 2015 Rogue. I do not have the dual climate., “same temperature for both sides”. If you are getting heat on 1 side and cold on the other I'm not sure this will work for you. Call or email Unique to ensure you are getting the correct part. I got the kit in a few days after ordering. It came with all parts needed for the repair. Installation took about an hour "I'm slow". Everything works as it should now. I have heat when I want heat and I have cold when I want cold. Purchased your repair kit to fix my girlfriend's daughter's 2015 Rogue. Went in with the usual issues working on an unfamiliar vehicle, but solved the problem of heat on only one side or no heat at all. First attempt to mount the actuator with the splined part almost resulted in losing that part. Luckily, I found it and on the second try it went in just fine. I CANNOT thank you enough for this. I wish more people started doing things like this. You are an absolute lifesaver. I just got my heat working again just in time for winter. The trickiest part for me was getting the actuator on and screwed in while the spring piece was in place. Found it easier to get the closer screw started then fitting everything else in place. Also, when removing the heating vent, I just removed the front screw then ripped the thing out over the old screw.
Again, I can't thank you enough!!! I feel like I want to send you an xmas present this year! haha.

OMGoodness, It worked!! This just saved me $3200 CAD. I ordered and this magical piece was shipped out the same day. It arrived today and it took me about an hour to install. So grateful for this! For those that want to keep the foot vent cover blowing air on their feet instead of removing it and having air blow on their knees- it is possible. If you want to try this method, don't bother removing the back screw on the foot vent cover (which is a pain to reach anyways.) Just leave that screw installed, remove the front screw on the vent and slide the vent down and out of the way when you install this kit. After installing the blend door kit, slide the vent cover back up into place as much as you can. While I was not able to get it all the way back into place, I was able to get it close enough to get the 2nd screw in, leaving just a narrow gap around the edge of the vent cover. I put some duct tape over the gap, and air is now directed down to the feet area. Initially I tightened the front screw on the foot vent too much, and I think it pinched or obstructed something and the blend door seemed not to work. But I loosened the screw just a tad, and everything works great now.

As someone that's never worked on a car before instructions were very easy to follow I had no problem doing everything. I had one problem it wasn't getting hot at first so I sent a message and he was able to call me and talk to me and we decided that the screws aren't tight enough went in and did that work perfect since then a+ product

Just installed this kit and it seems to have corrected the problem. If I can make one suggestion, since the heater tube needs to be removed and it's not reinstalled, why not design a vent plate to cut into the side trim and cut the heater tube so that it exits through that flat trim panel that you remove to access the blend door.
